Get to know those behind the Osborn School District Educational Foundation's work.
Wilma Basnett, President
Wilma Basnett retired in 2014, after 26 years of leading the Osborn School District as its superintendent. She helped found the Osborn School District Educational Foundation in 1986. A member of the Rotary Club of Phoenix West, she served Rotary International as District Governor 2005-06, representing 40 clubs and 1,800 Rotarians in northwestern Arizona. Currently she is a docent at the Phoenix Art Museum and serves on the Docent Board of Directors.
Hannah Auger, Vice President
Hannah Auger is a Project Manager for a Biopharmaceutical company’s Professional Development department and has called Arizona home for a total of 10 years – the last 2 within the Osborn District. Hannah was driven to join the board by her desire to give back to this community that has warmly welcomed her family. With a son attending Encanto Elementary, she has seen firsthand the overwhelmingly positive impact the district makes on children and families. Hannah is deeply invested in the educational journey of local students and hopes her time serving on the board will help ensure all Osborn families receive the same outstanding experience her family has. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys spending time with her son, attending neighborhood events, and volunteering with the Surprise Fire Department.
Marty Makar, Secretary
Marty Makar retired in 2017 following a 37- year career in education. After motivating elementary and middle school students in the classroom for 22 years, Marty was appointed assistant principal in 2002 and served as principal of Osborn Middle School from 2005 – 2017. She is dedicated to the mission that all Osborn students have opportunity to succeed.
Vonna Barnes, CPA, Treasurer
Vonna Barnes is an accomplished Enrolled Agent with nearly two decades of experience at Kong & Associates CPA’s LLC. She specializes in providing tailored tax and accounting services, alongside detailed financial statement preparation. Her expertise extends to records management, cost allocation, and tax planning, as well as managing tax controversies. Vonna is dedicated to professional growth and is actively involved with the American Institute of CPAs, the Arizona Society of CPAs, the ASU Alumni Association, and a networking group focused on Women in Healthcare.
Leslie Beauchamp
Leslie Beauchamp is a 4th generation Phoenician who had grown up hearing her father reminisce about attending Osborn #1 on Central. Leslie was fortunate enough to also learn and grow in Osborn while serving as middle school assistant principal and an elementary principal from 2007-2013. She currently works as a district liaison and principal coach for a grant focused on redesigning human capital management systems and schools to extend the reach of excellent educators. She believes that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that all children receive a high-quality, free, and public education, and is excited to support the Osborn School District Educational Foundation in extending and maximizing resources for students and teachers in Osborn.
Bill Boyd, CPA
Bill Boyd recently retired as a partner of Price Kong CPAs. Bill was instrumental in developing a long standing partnership between Price Kong and the foundation that continues to donate proceeds from their annual golf tournament to the foundation to fund sports programs and equipment for district students.
James Cerasia
James Cerasia is an attorney and dedicated community leader serving on the Board of the Osborn School District Educational Foundation. With a background in law and public service, James brings thoughtful governance, a commitment to equity, and a passion for supporting students and educators. He and his dog, Bruiser, proudly live within the Osborn School District and are enthusiastic supporters of its mission and schools.
John Dowd
John Dowd works with a dedicated team of professionals at CORE Construction, the number one ranked school builder in the state of Arizona. After graduating from Concordia University – Irvine in 2016, John moved back to Arizona, now residing within the Osborn School District. Since returning to Arizona, his passion and advocacy efforts for Arizona’s public education system has continued to grow. John looks forward to working collaboratively with the Osborn Education Foundation, assisting the foundation with its mission by impacting students’ lives across the district.
Michelle Doherty
Michelle Doherty was a first-grade dual language teacher and mentor coach at Encanto Elementary in the Osborn School District for 25 years. She is continuing her love for teaching by supporting and mentoring new teachers in the Arizona Teachers Academy, supports the induction team for the AZK12 Center, and is also an adjunct faculty member for Northern Arizona University.
Michelle was recognized as the Arizona Educational Foundation 2017 Arizona Teacher of the Year, the 2016-2017 Osborn School District Teacher of the Year, and the 2015 Chicanos Por La Causa Esperanza Latino Teacher of the Year. Michelle received her B.A. in Early Childhood Education, her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University, and in 2017 received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Northern Arizona University.
Gary Drummond
Gary Drummond is an attorney at Sallquist, Drummond & O’Connor, P.C. in Phoenix. A past president of the Thunderbird and Phoenix West Rotary clubs, he is the currently serving as co-president elect for of the Phoenix West Rotary Club.
Daniel Duran
Daniel Duran is the Managing Partner of Duran Meetings & Events, a Phoenix-based consulting firm specializing in non-profit general advising, strategic planning, project management and events. Daniel has worked in the hospitality and event industry for over 20 years, serving a wide range of clients. For more than a decade he has served primarily education advocacy and public awareness organizations in Arizona and around the country and is passionate about organizations accomplishing and elevating their mission through public awareness and events. Daniel, his husband and daughter reside in the Osborn School District.
Juan Flamand
Juan Carlos Flamand is a former Osborn School District Governing Board Member. Juan Carlos is passionate about the Osborn School District and his four children attend or have attended Osborn schools. Additionally, Juan Carlos led two bond and override election efforts benefiting the school district.
Juan Carlos is a partner at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP focusing his practice on employment-based immigration and global mobility. Juan Carlos is passionate about service, and he contributes his time to education and immigrant rights organizations.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Juan Carlos has lived in the Osborn district since 2006 with his spouse, Kristin Wesley, and their four children.
Matt Jewett
Matt Jewett returned to Children's Action Alliance as Director of Health Policy in March 2023, having previously worked with the organization from 2004 to 2013. In between, he served as Director of Grants at Mountain Park Health Center. He has led outreach campaigns that increased AHCCCS and KidsCare health insurance enrollment and managed up to $35 million a year in grant funds, including for construction of a new clinic. Matt was a member of the Creighton Elementary School District Governing Board in Phoenix for six years. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona, has studied graduate-level public health at A.T. Still University, and enjoys a good cup of tea, growing his vinyl collection, and exploring his home state of Arizona…and the world.
AJ Marsden
AJ is a retired teacher. Over her 30-year career she taught gifted education, Jr High Social Studies, as well as 3rd and 5th grades. AJ has lived in her house between Solano and OMS for over 20 years and is very active in the community. You will probably see her biking around, at local establishments, and community events. She enjoys gardening, traveling with her husband, and helping the community be safe. AJ keeps up on current events and likes to read about a variety of topics. She looks forward to working with, supporting, and promoting the teachers, students, and families in the Osborn School District.
Lee Pistor
Lee Pistor is a fourth generation Arizonan and has worked for the last 30 years in the electronics industry giving him the opportunity to travel the globe. His late wife, Mary, was an educator in the Osborn School District for 38 years and was very committed and passionate about providing the best for the students and dedicated teachers of Osborn. It is Lee’s desire to continue to help the district through service on the Osborn School District Educational Foundation.
Dr. Michael Robert
As superintendent of Osborn School District, Dr. Michael Robert is an ex-officio member of the Osborn School District Educational Foundation's board and acts as the foundation’s primary liaison to the Osborn School District.
